Link to a forum : Yahoo domain name registration, be careful, you may loose your domain name

First comment from this forum :

"This happened to me last year:

I registed a domain name with yahoo. I paid for 5 years.

After sometime, I bought a hosting plan from yahoo. Since I didn't like the hosting plan, I cancelled the plan.

Know what, yahoo canceled my domain name also! I lost a domain name for which I had paid for 5 years.

Talked, Shouted, Cried - with yahoo support people! No use! Domain name remained canceled! I had to pay again to get back the domain.

(Their stupid logic: They call a hosting plan as an upgrade of the domain plan. When you buy hosting, you upgrade domain name. So when you cancel hosting plan later, according to them, you cancel not only the hosting plan, but also the domain name associated with it)

Didn't expect such an idiotic logic from a company like Yahoo."

Yahoo Domains - Thoughts From A Happy Customer

Yahoo Domains is great. I have had an amazing experience using Yahoo to register and maintain my dot com domain name. Before I had my website, I was looking at the elements I needed to get started and wanted to make all of the best selections in terms of the best registrar, website hosting, and design.
I did not want to cut any corners so I did my research before I chose Yahoo Domains. I looked at other companies, what they offered, and the kind of support they would give after the sale. I, of course, also considered the price point as a factor before I made my selection.
Price isn't everything, though. Yahoo is not the most expensive, but it's also not the least expensive in terms of registrars out there. However, they do have the greatest value; at least that was my conclusion after I researched the other popular registrars on the market today.
Yahoo does more than basic, even with their lowest price domain registration. That is why I like Yahoo Domains. Other companies the offered lower prices than Yahoo did not tend to include as much as Yahoo did with even their basic domain registration.
Yahoo Small Business of course has lots of options for your small business, including website building and things of that nature. Some of these tools and support are included with all of their packages, but some of them are only in the upgrade (higher priced) type packages.
Having these options is what really did it for me. I did not want to be limited to basic domain registration. I wanted the extras and I wanted Yahoo's world class service and support that they have been known for through the years. This way, when trouble strikes, I won't be left feeling helpless. I will get the help I need in a short period of time and with dependable results.

yahoo Domains: A Simple Web Site Solution

Having put up more than a few Web sites myself, one of the easiest ways I've found to get your domains set up and running is to simply go through Yahoo.
Yahoo will register your domains' names for under $10 a year, though as of this writing, Yahoo is having a sale on domains for $2.99 per year. That's a lot cheaper than some registrars I've seen that are still trying to charge $20 or more just for domains.
Once you get your domain registered, you still need to host it somewhere. Again, Yahoo has a simple answer, or several simple answers, in its Geocities service. You can plunk down your domains for free at Yahoo Geocities, but you'll have ads. For a nominal fee ($4.95 per month) you can get 500 MB storage and 25 GB per month transfer -- that's more than enough for most starter sites.
If you host your domains through Yahoo Geocities, you'll get plenty of tools to help you design and manage your site, enough to do just about anything legal you might want to do on the Net.
You'll have access to Yahoo web page templates as well as a point-and-click designer, in addition to the ability to manually play with your domains' HTML.
Yahoo also gives you choices for uploading, using their easy upload manager or the more traditional FTP for large sites. E-mail is part of the package.
A recent addition to the Yahoo Geocities tools is the ability to start and manage a blog on your domains.
All in all, registering and hosting your domains through Yahoo is an easy solution for a home user or small business.

What are Yahoo Domain Names?

Yahoo domain names refer to registered addresses for websites. This can include a .net, .com or other extension. But it also includes the name of the site itself, followed by the chosen extension.

Working with Yahoo domain names has been said to be more dependable since the company has been in business for a very long time providing services such as search engine, email and news information. Consumers often opt for a bigger, more well-known name such as Yahoo domain names because of the fact that the company is not likely to be going out of business when the time to renew domain registration rolls around.

Yahoo’s Domain Service is a Rip Off

Nothing upsets me more than when a company tries to take advantage of their situation. As I mentioned in my SEO Domain Strategy 101 article, I own great deal of domains – in fact the exact number eludes me but I know it is around 1,800 or so. I have been buying, building and collecting domains since at least the mid-90′s and for a few years in the late 90′s I used Yahoo’s Domain service for most of my domain purchasing and hosting. Even though I have since moved all of my hosting away from Yahoo I still have about 150 domains that are housed and auto-renewed with Yahoo. Most of these domains I have never done anything with or have just held onto since I registered them for whatever reason. Every year I get my annual auto-renew letter, the price usually fluctuates, but it has always stayed in the $9.95 to $14.95 range. Whatever, no big deal since all my good domains are housed elsewhere and I have it on my list to transfer all of my domains to one company (not Yahoo).
Well imagine my surprise when I received the below email from Yahoo this morning. Yahoo is now charging $34.95 for domain renewals. Are you kidding me? $34.95? I am shocked when I see domain renewals costs over $10…$34.95 had me thinking it was an error. So, I proceed to call Yahoo and their helpful customer service staff confirmed the price change that went into effect July 1st. Wow. I am absolutely stunned by this. Anyone with any sort of domain knowledge will say that this is an absolute rip off by Yahoo and will result in a mass exodus of domains.
After digesting this for a few hours I started to think about what was Yahoo’s reasoning behind the price increase considering they are now nowhere near competitive. My first conclusion was that they wanted out of the domain business, so basically if  you don’t transfer your domain you would pay 3 – 4 times the going rate Fewer domains, higher profit margin. Hmm, doesn’t make much business sense since the new fee of $34.95 a year per domain would probably not cover all of the domains they ended up losing. My next thought was that they are trying to up sell me different services (like domain hosting and email), that when bundled together would decrease my overall renewal cost – for example, sign up for Yahoo’s $9.95 monthly web hosting and get your domain renewal free. This is a very common practice…however, when you look at the email below there is no mention of any other service. Housing a domain costs nothing except a $.20 yearly ICANN fee and a few bytes of space.
So what is the deal Yahoo? Did some moronic product manager slip this one by while Yahoo has been in chaos? If anyone has any idea as to Yahoo’s logic behind this ridiculous increase in domain renewal fee please share. In the mean time I will be busy transferring my remaining domains away from Yahoo.

How to Get a Cheap Yahoo Domain Name

Once you have decided that you want to have your own website on the internet its important that you choose a yahoo domain name that accurately represents what you plan to use it for and what extra features you need to get the most out of it.

With over 80 million registered domains on the internet its becoming harder and harder to find relevant yahoo domain names that are available which are related to the topic you want to target, especially for .com domain names which are by far the most popular. For this reason there are now many other types of yahoo domain names which you can choose from such as .net and .info.

The first thing you will need to do is visit a website such as Yahoo and start searching for available .com domain names using the search feature. As most names are already taken you will probably need to use three or more words to find one that is available (you can also use hyphens between each word to find available names).

Because people are familiar with .com domains you should start searching for them first but its not absolutely necessary and you can find a much shorter name using a different extension such as .net or .info. The extension of your yahoo domain will not effect the performance of your website or how well it operates.

If you want to generate free traffic from the search engines and achieve top rankings you should try to use keywords that you want to target in your domain name. So if you want to start a website about losing weight you should try to use words like “weight loss” or “diet” in the domain name to help your rankings in the search engines for those keywords.

Just having a popular keyword in your yahoo domain name is not enough to achieve top rankings but it will help the search engines identify what your website is about so its important that you include at least one keyword that relates to the market you want to target if you want to generate free traffic in the future.

When you have found a yahoo domain name for your website you should seriously consider adding the private registration option to your order. This will protect your domain from unwanted attention by hiding your personal details such as your email address which could be collected by spammers.

After you have purchased a yahoo domain name you will need to find a website hosting plan that suits your needs and meets your requirements depending on how much disk space and data transfer you need. Once you have a hosting account you can set up your website and have it up and running within a matter of hours.

I bring you to the wide array of domain name tactics and cheap companies that offer these domain names and hosting. Visit my blog and take your time to select the best domain company. Yahoo Domain Names

Yahoo Is Now Resorting To Selling Killer Domain Names On The Cheap

No sooner do we finish writing up Yahoo dead pooling yet another project, Gallery, do we get a tip that Yahoo apparently has another money saving/making plan: Selling off domains it owns. That’s exactly what it has done with contests.com, which sold during a live auction last night.

What’s really odd though (aside from an Internet giant actually selling a domain rather than buying one), is the price at which it sold. Contests.com is a killer domain name. People like my mother love nothing more than going online and searching for contests to enter to win stuff. But what’s crazy is that Yahoo sold it for only $380,000.

Let’s put that in some perspective. In February, Toys.com sold for $5.1 million in auction. Sure, that’s a better domain, but not over 10 times better. And a few weeks ago, Candy.com sold for $3 million.

How Yahoo failed to secure even a million for the name is beyond me. Just poor luck in the auction? This guy, who apparently left right before the auction started last night is flabbergasted as well.

I just really would like to know why Yahoo would even sell it in the first place? I know times are tough at Yahoo but is $380K really going to help much in the long run? No. Hell, it’d probably be better to keep the domain and just put a load of ads on it, perhaps even Google ads. Or, I don’t know, run some Yahoo contests on it. People on the web love that   stuff, I hear.

Transferring Domains from Yahoo!

This registrar can accept transfers from any registrar. With our Rapid Transfer System,
domain transfers can often be completed in as little as five days or less. However, some
transfers may take up to seven days to complete.
To transfer a domain from Yahoo! to us, you will need the following information:
✔ Domain status – Locked or Active
✔ Administrative contact for registered domain
✔ Authorization or EPP code (.com, .net, .org, .biz, .us, and .info TLDs only).
If you do not have that information on hand, you can obtain it from Yahoo!. The domain
transfer cannot succeed unless the domain name is unlocked, the administrative e-mail
address is valid, and the correct authorization code is provided (for .com, .net, .org, .biz,
.us. or .info domains).
See below for a description of the specific elements and issues involved in transferring a
domain from Yahoo! to this registrar.
Unlocking Domain
Domain names registered with Yahoo! might have been placed in the user-controlled
“Lock” status, which is displayed as “Registrar-Lock” at the registry. Before a domain
transfer is requested, the lock must be removed and the registry status verified as
“Active.”
To Unlock Your Domain
1. Log in to your Business Control Panel at
http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/index.php.
2. Click the Domain Control Panel hyperlink for the domain you want to unlock.
3. Click Edit Domain Locking.
4. Click Unlock Domain.
Note: It may take up to 24 hours before our system identifies and recognizes the status
change.
The Importance of the Administrative Domain Contact
The administrative contact is one of the four contacts listed in the Whois database for a
registered domain. The contact information is defined by the registrant. As part of the
domain transfer process, we will send a transfer-approval e-mail message to the domain's
administrative contact listed in the Whois database. The e-mail message contains the
Transaction ID and Security Code that enable the administrative contact to approve the
transfer.
Changing Administrative Contact Information
If you have just removed the lock from a domain registered with Yahoo! (the “unlock”
procedure is described above), 24 hours should elapse before the administrative contact
responds to the transfer approval e-mail message, as it can take up to 24 hours before our
system recognizes changes to the domain's Whois information.
Any attempt to respond to the transfer approval message before the status change has
been completed will result in transfer failure. You will receive an instant e-mail
notification of the failed transfer.
To Change the Administrative Contact for Your Domain
1. Log in to your Business Control Panel at
http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/index.php.
2. Click the Domain Control Panel hyperlink for the domain you want to access.
3. Click the View/Edit Your Domain Registration hyperlink.
4. On the Domain Registration Information page, click Edit.
5. Edit your Administrative contact.
Note: It may take up to 24 hours before our system recognizes the changes.
Authorization Code
To transfer a .com, .net, .biz, .info, .org, or .us domain name you will need an
authorization code. An authorization code is a unique code assigned by registrars to .com,
.net, .biz, .us, .info, and .org domain names at the time of registration.
Note: Website Services customers must contact Yahoo! At
http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/contactus/ to obtain their authorization code.
To Obtain Your Authorization Code from Yahoo!
1. Log in to your Business Control Panel at
http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/index.php.
2. Click the Domain Control Panel hyperlink for the domain you want to access.
3. Click View Your Authorization Code.
Transferring Domain
Assuming that the above issues are in order, the domain transfer process proceeds thus:
To transfer a domain to this registrar:
1. Advise the domain's administrative contact that the domain name is being
transferred.
2. We will e-mail the administrative contact by the next business day with
instructions on how to approve the transfer.
3. Once the administrative contact has approved the domain transfer, we will send a
transfer request to the registry. If the domain's administrative contact does not
have access to the account from which the transfer request was purchased, the
recipient of the e-mail request must forward the Transaction ID and Security
Code to someone who does. These codes must be entered on the Pending
Domain Transfer screen in your account in order to approve the transfer. Once
the Transaction ID and Security Code are successfully entered, we will request the
transfer at the registry. The registrar of record then has five (5) calendar days to
deny the transfer. If the registrar of record does not deny the transfer, the transfer
is automatically approved.
4. The registry will contact Yahoo! via e-mail.
5. Yahoo! will send an acceptance or rejection notice to the registry. If the registrar
fails to deny the transfer within five days, the registry will move the domain
registration to this registrar.
6. The registry will notify us of the acceptance or rejection.
7. We will inform you via e-mail that the transfer is complete.
Should the domain transfer fail, we will notify you via e-mail. You may resubmit your
transfer request if the transfer fails. However, to ensure that the information listed in your
transfer request remains valid, you will have 30 days from the time of your purchase to
complete the transfer.

How do I make money with domain parking?

It seems that every single day is to show up for a new website that promises you a bazillion next week, eh unfortunately most of these sites are a bit 'of a bunk bed and all you get is a headache and continue to be so for hundreds even thousands of dollars. Do not waste time, I say! Instead, use something that has been proven to work, do not toot your horn and go for the most part not dishonest.

Unfortunately, as with the rest of lifewill always be dishonest about programs and dishonest people, your job is to try to understand what crap and they are not. able to write one of the easiest ways to find out if the ground is a scam or not, make a quick visit to Google, if you understand the magic phrase in question with the word at the end of the sentence is easy to find out if a Web site or is not a scam.

Remember to keep your mind on this and remember to use common sense. For example, if you select a websiteout, and there are 200 people say those of the ABC site and its legitimate and find 5 people that this is a scam and does not work, or pay what you do not say you think you should put more faith in? It is usually the larger amount.

Let's face it, there are a lot of online scams, have canceled their own thing, even if they are following the rules, and these people often get their payment returned. These are the people who go online and bad mouth a site likesimply because they are mad they get caught! Just try to open an assumption and not getting the whole picture first!

In order to make money with domain parking, the first thing you need to have a domain! Once you have a domain and is a program to help you with your problem domain, keywords, categories, etc. In this point, should jointly to preview your site, if its to your liking or do not realizeIn most cases, according to the guidelines of the site if they wear name tags or cell phones for playing tennis or books in your domain, the domain and keywords should be relevant argument. For example, if you have a website called tennis balls for all that you should not be a race car theme and keywords, because it is a popular niche. Doing things right or do not do it all!

After setting up the site, you will see that magically has placed ads on the site! These ads come from advertisers who bought keywords or phrases, terms, through websites such as Google and Yahoo, then these pages a sort of feeds on your domain, which then can show ads. Pretty cool technology if you think about it! Just like you want to make money the owner of this domain? Well, first of all, I think it's important to remember that you should not do search and click on your domainyou get only one thing, and that is excluded from the site!

However, if you want visitors from places other than to send home, as family, friends or strangers, they are authorized to seek and / or "click" to do on your site. If the person visiting your site are presented with two options, you can search in the search box, or they can click on a keyword in the page. Both processes are shown in the results on the site after the endsee the results you must click on a result to pay for you!

Depending on which side you enter, what is the share of goods entering the program, and a truck full of semantics other you end up with different values for the pay per click or search. Sometimes it is worth 15cents, and other times you can, with luck and some might do a search for something on the advertiser bid very high, we say bring $ 2.50. No two programs are alike and no twodo the same amount of money.

They are all different in their rights and honestly I like it! This is a good opportunity for you to find out which pages are good and which are better to pay less and pay more. tip side, if you are not making money on a website, they change a bit ', or change your keywords and your topic, for that matter, if all else fails, go to websites and switch! Time is money!

Why buy a domain name?

You've decided it's time to put a website or blog for your business. Excellent decision. Now is the time to think about the domain name. You can choose to go with either one of the many free hosting options, but you can not choose your domain name if you go away.

Using a Yahoo Web Hosting Coupon

If you are starting a site or changing hosts, either way you'll need to go through Yahoo as a website host if you are interested in working with the long-established company. The Yahoo web hosting coupon gives you a discount when you are at the checkout area of the Yahoo Small Business page, purchasing your domains and hosting services from Yahoo.

But what is interesting is that you can actually learn a lot as you use your Yahoo web hosting coupon. If you are an online retailer yourself or are in the process of becoming one, you can see how the Yahoo web hosting coupon is very similar to coupons you may offer your customers in the future.

In fact, Yahoo offers something called a store coupon for you to provide for those who shop in your Yahoo store that you set up through Yahoo merchant solutions. Therefore, the Yahoo web hosting coupon usage that you perform as you checkout while purchasing their website host services is a great opportunity for you to see how the store coupons work. It's very similar!

Regardless of whether you happen to have a Yahoo web hosting coupon, this is a solid company with a longstanding reputation for consistent products and customer service. The Yahoo web hosting coupon is optional but does give you a certain percentage off, or a certain price point. It could vary depending on the particular Yahoo web hosting coupon you have.

Aside from their superior image, Yahoo needs to be competitive. You are encouraged to do your homework, provided you have the time, to find out just how good the value is you get when you use them as your host, even if you don't have a Yahoo web hosting coupon.

It is not sufficient to simply check the data transfer (aka "bandwidth") and storage offered at what price range. The reason is that you must be aware of the merchant solutions, marketing options, and extras like the ability to set up a Yahoo store coupon to entice customers.

Do other registrars, hosting companies, and marketing companies offer every last one of these services in one place? Yahoo does, which puts them at a level above most other individual companies offering one or two of these services.

The reason it is convenient to have it all in one place is because you can not only access through one log in, you also experience the synergy of the services as they combine and work in complete concert together. The disconnect that occurs when you use three or four separate companies for each services can create a proverbial headache so unbearable, you might lose momentum on what your goal is in the first place: to run a successful online business!

The verdict here is that if you want to let simplicity have the final say. And that will generally mean going ahead and using the Yahoo web hosting coupon and getting all of your merchant solutions and other small business services in one place.

Getting Started with Yahoo! Domains

Welcome to Yahoo! Domains! This brief guide will help get you started setting up and managing the features of your new web address. If you have any questions along the way, see our Yahoo! Domains Help.

About Your Domain
When you signed up for your plan, you chose a web address, or domain, for your business. Your customers will use this domain, such as learn2yoga.com, to find your business online.
If you recently signed up for Yahoo! Domains, your domain may still be pending. Pending means that your domain is not yet active across the Internet; don't worry, this is normal for all domain registrations and changes, and can take up to 72 hours. The effects of a pending domain:
Web address: If you are registering a new domain, visitors who visit your web address will get a Page Not Found error. If you are using a domain you registered elsewhere, visitors will see the page or web site that is currently active, depending on the settings you have made at your registrar.
Email: Any email messages sent to your domain name may not be delivered while your domain is pending. If you are using a domain you ordered through another provider, your email may be delivered to your registrar until your domain becomes active.
We'll notify you as soon as your domain becomes active. In the meantime, you can begin familiarizing yourself with your Yahoo! plan features!

Using a Domain You Already Own
To use your existing domain name with your Yahoo! plan, you'll need to contact the company where you originally registered your domain, such as Network Solutions, and request a name server change to redirect your existing domain name to Yahoo!
You don't need to understand name servers to make the switch. Just provide your registrar with this information about your new service (be sure to replace learn2yoga.com with your own domain name):
I would like to request a name server change for my domain learn2yoga.com. Please change my name servers to:
Primary name server: yns1.yahoo.com
Primary IP address: 98.136.43.32
Secondary name server: yns2.yahoo.com
Secondary IP address: 66.196.84.168
After you've done this, the change may take up to 72 hours (during this time, your domain will appear as pending).
Note: This process is not a registrar transfer. Your current provider will continue to renew your domain, and you'll pay any associated fees to that provider. Yahoo! will not renew your domain. Learn more.

Your Domain Control Panel
To begin exploring your new domain features, sign in to your account:
Visit your Business Control Panel. (If you haven't entered your Yahoo! ID and password, you'll be prompted to do so here. If you forget your password, click the "Forgot your password?" link and follow the prompts to retrieve it.)
Click "Domain Control Panel."
From here, you'll see a list of tasks, where you can manage all of your Yahoo! Domains services:
Starter Web Page: Create or edit a basic web page for your web address.
Forward Your Domain: Send visitors from your domain to another web site.
Set Up Email Address: Set up your domain name email address.
View/Edit Your Domain Registration: Review and update your WHOIS contact information.
Manage Advanced DNS Settings: Set up CNAME, A Records, and MX records (for advanced users only).
Starter Web Page
When you purchase a Domains, Custom Mailbox, or Business Mail plan, we automatically create a placeholder "Under Construction" web page for you at your web address. To customize this page, you can use our starter web page feature, which allows you to add your name, contact information, and details about your business, as well as change the page design. A starter web page is a great way to establish a presence at your domain until you're ready to build a more comprehensive web site. Learn more.
Note: Do you already have a web site? You can forward traffic from your new domain name to your existing site. Learn how.

Email Features
If you have a Domains plan, you'll also get one free email address! You can specify an email address at your domain, such as linda@learn2yoga.com, and retrieve these messages from your free Yahoo! Mail account (for example, youryahooID@yahoo.com).
You can also take advantage of our "catch-all" feature, which allows any email sent to misaddressed, misspelled, or nonexistent addresses at your domain to be redirected to your Yahoo! Mail account. You can activate this feature in the "Set Up Email Address" task from the Domains Control Panel. Learn more.

Other Settings
From your Domain Control Panel, you can edit both your domain registration information and your advanced DNS settings:
Domain Registration Information: At any time, you can visit this task to edit your registrant and administrator contact information. We recommend keeping this information up-to-date in the event that your domain name registrar or another third party needs to contact you regarding any technical or legal issue with your domain name. Learn more.
Advanced DNS Settings: If you're an advanced user, you can customize your domain name to work with other services. You can add A or CNAME records, or change MX records or your name servers. However, we recommend changing DNS records only if you're an advanced users, as making such changes can prevent your services from functioning properly. If you've made changes and would like to revert to the old settings, you can reset the advanced DNS settings to their default values.

How Do I Buy Yahoo Domains? I'm New At This & Need Some Step-by-step Advice, Please.v

First of all, before you purchase a Yahoo domain, you need to know what it is and why it is a necessity for your website to run.  Many people are anxious to set up a site but don’t realize what it actually takes.  While it’s not an “easy” process, per se’ (some expertise is required at each step), it is a straightforward process in the sense that it is always the same procedure.

To set up and properly maintain a website, you’ll need to get the following components in order:

•    Site Content
•    Site Coding and Design
•    Web Hosting
•    Domain Registration
•    Marketing Tools

The site content is all of the actual text and media that will be displayed and enjoyed by your website’s visitors, once the site is up and running.  This will include a home page, contact page, and other content pages, the navigation bar (so people can make their way through the various areas of the site as they explore it) and any media associated with your site’s purpose.  Media refers to audio, video, pictures or other non-text-based elements.

Site coding and design can be done by anyone you choose.  There are site designers and coders out there who charge a fortune and also freelancers you can hire on the cheap.  The quality will, as you would naturally assume, vary accordingly.

Web hosting is the service where your content is uploaded and stored to a server by the web host.   In turn, people will actually be seeing your site specifically because the web host’s servers are accessed each time a visitor goes to your site.

A Yahoo domain is the company that lets you register a dot com or dot net address.  You also get access to a control panel which allows you to configure options such as redirects (where you have multiple website addresses all leading to the same actual website).

Marketing tools should never be ignored.  You can have a site all day long, but if you don’t market it properly, no one will see your site, and the site will be basically be a waste of cyber space!  Always market and advertise.
